Chapter 1

My Childhood

Growing up in ChiÈ™inău, Moldova, life wasn't exactly a walk in the park for me and my family of four. There was my dad, John, my mom, Layla, my older sister, Ana, and me. Despite the financial struggles that plagued Moldova, we managed to find happiness in our little corner of the world—at least, until things took a turn for the worse. But I'll get to that in the next chapters.

As a little girl navigating the halls of school, I quickly learned that the world wasn't always kind. Sure, I had friends, but bullying was an ever-present shadow that followed me everywhere. No matter how hard I tried to fit in, there were always those who found reasons to tear me down. Yet, in the midst of the taunts and jeers, I found refuge in my studies. I was determined to excel, and excel I did. Despite the challenges, I consistently earned high grades and garnered the admiration of my teachers.

But not everyone appreciated my dedication to my studies. Some saw it as a threat, a reminder of their own shortcomings. And so, the bullying persisted. To make matters worse, I bore the weight of insecurity thanks to a birthmark on my arm—a target for cruel remarks and hurtful comments. It was a small mark, but it loomed large in my mind, feeding into the growing cloud of mental health issues that began to take root.

I'll never forget the day a teacher, supposed to be a pillar of guidance and support, chose to laugh at me in front of the entire class. The laughter echoed in my ears, a cruel symphony of ridicule that cut deep. At just 10 years old, I was paralyzed with shame and uncertainty, unsure of how to respond to such blatant cruelty. It was a moment that left a lasting scar on my psyche, a reminder of the harsh realities of life.

But such is life, filled with moments of both joy and pain, triumph and defeat. And so, my childhood became a battleground—a testing ground for resilience and strength that would shape the woman I was destined to become.
